Flesh Pillow, 2023

Fake skin, ink, fabric, wool, metal

Flesh pillow is a piece that stemmed from an urge to create an object that is as equally grotesque as it is comforting. I wanted to explore how we injure our flesh in the name of adornments and modification - to pay homage to the skin’s ability to heal. This piece was constructed from tattooed silicone “fake skin” which was then sewed to fabric, lace, and a garter, pierced with metal hoops, and stuffed with multicolored felt. I then used the waste and remnants created from this process to assemble a pedestal for its display.
